YEARLY MEETING: A large autonomous body of Quakers, which meets for several days once a year. In theory, its decisions are binding on the monthly and quarterly meetings within its jurisdiction and on the committees and staff which carry out the work of the yearly meeting. It meets annually to conduct business, formulate the discipline, receive reports and concerns from its constituent meetings, review the state of the Society, and communicate with other yearly meetings and non-Quaker organizations.

Philadelphia Yearly Meeting Records: Coordinating Committee for Testimonies & Concerns (1974-1998)

Abstract In 1974, Philadelphia Yearly Meeting was restructured: three Coordinating Committees were each given oversight of the committees and programs under its care. The Coordinating Committee II, more frequently referred to as CC-2, had general responsibility for Testimonies and Concerns. Philadelphia Yearly Meeting Records: Church Unity Committee (1949-1973)

Abstract

The Church Unity Committee was composed of a small group of members-at-large appointed by the Yearly Meeting and those Friends who served "in any official capacity as representatives of this Yearly Meeting on State, National, or World Councils of Churches." It had originally been appointed by the Orthodox branch to coordinate ecumenical contacts. The Committee was laid down by Representative Meeting in 1973.

Philadelphia Yearly Meeting Records: Coordinating Committee on Civil Liberties (1954-1964)

Abstract

A Coordinating Committee on Civil Liberties was appointed by both PYM in 1954. The following year, the reunited Yearly Meeting approved the creation of a regular Committee on Civil Liberties "to activate anew our ancient testimony."

Philadelphia Yearly Meeting (Hicksite) Records: Committee on Economic Problems (1937-1948)

Abstract

The Committee on Economic Problems was appointed in 1937 to cooperate with the Social Order Committee of the Arch Street Yearly Meeting. Clair Wilcox, a Quaker professor of Economics at Swarthmore College was the first Chair. The Committee was interested in a variety of related issues, including industrial relations, unemployment, and economic and social research.

Abstract The Central America Working Group of the Philadelphia Yearly Meeting began in 1985 under the name "Sanctuary Working Group." In 1986, the group was given over twenty one thousand dollars with which to send volunteers to the American southwestern border to aid refugees.
