Continental Walk for Disarmament and Social Justice Records

Abstract

The Continental Walk for Disarmament and Social Justice was initated in 1974 to "call for disarmament, a simultaneous shift of economic priorities away from militarism and toward meeting domestic and global human needs, and removal of the causes of war." When the Walk ended on October 18, 1976 at the Pentagon in Washington D.C., walkers had covered 8,000 miles through 34 states.

Lydia Cooke diaries

Abstract

Lydia Barton Cooke was a Philadelphia Quaker who joined the Hicksites in 1828. Diary entries include prayers, poems, descriptions of domestic duties, social calls from family and friends, Quaker meetings, and discussions of the health of her husband and children. Cooke's diaries also feature religious reflections, potentially concerning the separation between Orthodox and Hicksite.

David Cooper memoir

Abstract

David Cooper wrote his memoir during his later years, when his health was failing, so that his children would be able to reference an account of his life after his death. A note on the inside cover reads: "A Gift of David Cooper to his daughter Martha Allinson." In the memoir, Cooper recounts his early life, his family history, his marriage, the birth of his children, his Quakerism, his struggles with his faith, his work as a representative in 1761, and his attendance at Quaker Meetings.
